Kwania, Uganda | Aduku Health Center IV in Kwania District has received two newborn incubators worth UGX 28 million from Huguenot Trail Powhatan, Virginia in the United States of America.
The donation was facilitated through Stony Point Church, USA with the partnership witg Truth Fountain Church Odokomit North Lira City.
Michael Bryant, the Team Leader of Stony Point Church who is in the country, said they spent 7,600 US Dollars to buy the incubators. He said the donation is part of a 25-year partnership with Uganda aimed at saving lives where they had been working with Jinja, Kampala, Soroti, and Lira before choosing Kwania district because of the high number of babies delivered with high risk.
Pastor Silas Okello of Truth Fountain Church Odokomit North Lira City said the partnership between the two churches started long ago and is focused on supporting health and education to improve lives and at one time they visited many health facilities and new born babies dying and casestudy found in Kwania where a mother delivered in front of the hospital gate before reaching 9 months of her delivery day and the baby was covered with the blanket and referred to Lira Regional Referral Hospital after the baby was pronounced dead.
Dr. Patrick Ogwal, the Senior Medical Officer at Aduku HCIV who spoke on behalf of Kwania DHO, thanked the donors. He said the facility recived over 600 expectant mothers after every four month and between 50 to 60 are newborns with preterm or low birth weights and that many of them were being referred because of lack of equipment. He said the two incubators will now help the facility handle premature and critically ill newborns, and reduce referrals to higher-level facilities.
Nancy Alobo, a mother from Anywal, Adyeda Parish, Aduku Sub-county, who gave birth at Aduku HCIV, thanked the donors. She said the machines will help mothers like her if the babies are born prematurely and need urgent care.
Health officials say the donation will greatly improve maternal and newborn care at Aduku HCIV, which serves Kwania and neighboring districts.
