Eng. Dr. Moses Michael Odongo Okune Gazetted as Wonyaci

Kampala, Uganda – The Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development of Uganda has officially gazetted Eng. Dr. Moses Michael Odongo Okune as the new Paramount Chief (Wonyaci) of the Lango Cultural Institution.

This announcement was made through General Notice number 1208 of 2024 in the Uganda Gazette on June 14, 2024, and will take effect on November 2, 2024.

Citing Article 246(1) of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda and Section 6 of the Institution of Traditional and Cultural Leaders Act, 2011, the Ministry emphasized the importance of such cultural leadership roles and the need for public awareness.

The Minister of Labour, Gender, and Social Development, Betty Amongi, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Oyam South, signed the notification authorizing the publication of Eng. Dr. Odongo Okune’s appointment in the Uganda Gazette.

The appointment follows the unanimous election of Eng. Dr. Odongo Okune on March 1, 2024. As the new Wonyaci, he is expected to lead the Lango Cultural Institution in preserving and promoting the cultural heritage and values of the Lango people, fostering unity, and contributing to the overall development of the community.

This significant announcement highlights the importance of cultural institutions and traditional leadership in Uganda’s diverse society.

The Lango people and the general public eagerly anticipate the reign of Eng. Dr. Moses Michael Odongo Okune as the Wonyaci of Lango Cultural Institution, confident that his leadership will bring progress, unity, and prosperity to the community.
