Lira, Uganda | The MP-elect for Erute South Constituency, Sam Engola, has provided 48 pupils who recently sat for the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) and passed in Division One with mattresses as they begin their Senior One education.
The distribution ceremony took place at Igonu P/S School, starting with prayers at St. Joseph Catholic Chapel. The mattresses were handed over to the pupils by Dr. Opio Mark, a beneficiary of Engola’s scholarship programme.
Commenting on the initiative, Sam Engola said that the initiative is not merely about providing a mattress but about sending a clear message to the learners that they were believed in.
He emphasized that education is the foundation of a better future and that every child deserves support as they take the next step in their academic journey.
He urged the pupils to remain focused, work hard, and aspire to become leaders not only in Erute South but across the country.
Parents and guardians expressed gratitude for the timely intervention.
Mary, a mother from Amach Subcounty, said that many parents struggle to afford even basic items for their children joining boarding school, adding that Engola’s kindness would enable her daughter to start school with dignity.
She expressed heartfelt appreciation on behalf of the beneficiaries.
Pamela Angwech praised the gesture, describing it as both practical and inspirational.
She noted that when leaders invest in education, they invest in the future and added that the act of generosity would motivate other students to work hard and aim high.
The initiative highlights Hon. Engola’s dedication to supporting education in Erute South and nurturing the next generation of leaders.
