Kampala, Uganda – Government Chief Whip Denis Hamson Obua has officially declared his bid for the position of NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) Vice Chairperson for Northern Uganda.
The announcement, made on Sunday, February 9, 2025, marks a significant political move as the ruling party gears up for internal elections.
Obua, who also serves as the NRM Parliamentary Caucus Chairperson, revealed his decision through a video posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, calling on NRM members and leaders to support his candidacy.
His campaign focuses on consolidating the party’s achievements in Northern Uganda and strengthening its influence in the region.
At 45 years old, Obua is the youngest Cabinet-level minister in the current government and brings extensive political experience to the race.
He has served as a Commissioner of Parliament, State Minister of Sports and Chairperson of the Science and Technology Committee.
His leadership credentials also include being a former Commonwealth Youth Forum spokesperson and earning recognition as the best-performing MP in 2010 with a 100% rating.
The NRM Central Executive Committee, the party’s highest decision-making organ, plays a critical role in policy formulation, political strategy and party administration.
Obua’s entry into the race signals a highly competitive contest as he seeks to position himself as a key figure in shaping NRM’s future in Northern Uganda.
Obua has been instrumental in coordinating legislative affairs and ensuring the smooth passage of key government bills as Government Chief Whip.
His bid for the CEC position is expected to intensify political activity in the region as NRM leaders and supporters weigh their options ahead of the elections.
