The Office of the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) in Kaberamaido District has scheduled a series of community meetings to assess the implementation of government programmes and give residents a platform to raise concerns over service delivery.
The Government Programmes Evaluation Barazas will be held across the district from September 3 to 13, 2026, according to a notice issued by the RDC’s office on August 27.
The initiative is expected to bring together residents, local leaders and government officials to discuss the performance of public programmes and identify challenges affecting beneficiaries.
The first Baraza will take place at Okile Sub-county headquarters on September 3, followed by Kaberamaido Sub-county headquarters on September 5. Residents in Aperikin Sub-county will have their meeting on September 7 at the sub-county headquarters, while Kaberamaido Town Council will host its Baraza on September 8.
The programme will continue at Kobulubulu Sub-county on September 9 and Alwa Sub-county on September 10, both at their respective sub-county headquarters. The Baraza in Ochero Sub-county is scheduled for September 11, followed by Ochero Town Council on September 12. The exercise will conclude at Oriamo Sub-county headquarters on September 13.
The notice, signed by Kaberamaido RDC Godfrey Nyakahuma, calls on sub-county chiefs, LC III, LC II and LC I chairpersons, NRM sub-county chairpersons, opinion leaders and religious leaders to mobilise residents to attend the meetings.
Arikos Peter, the Assistant Resident District Commissioner (ARDC) for Kaberamaido, said the meetings would provide an opportunity for residents to directly engage government officials on the implementation of programmes intended to improve livelihoods.
Arikos said recent community engagements had revealed concerns from residents over alleged extortion, favouritism, ghost beneficiaries, misuse of government resources and delays in service delivery.
He said some residents had also been seeking a formal platform through which they could present complaints and receive responses from responsible authorities.
The meetings are expected to focus on programmes including the Parish Development Model (PDM), cattle restocking programme, SAGE and Emyooga, among other government interventions.
Arikos urged beneficiaries and residents to attend the Barazas and present evidence-based concerns about programmes in their communities.
He also said public participation was important in strengthening accountability, noting that information from beneficiaries could help authorities identify gaps and possible abuse in the implementation of government programmes.
However, he cautioned residents against using the meetings to make unsubstantiated allegations, urging them to provide factual information that can be subjected to verification.
The RDC’s office has also copied the notice to the Members of Parliament for Kaberamaido County and Ochero County, the district LC V chairperson, Chief Administrative Officer, District Internal Security Officer and district NRM chairperson.
The meetings come as government continues to emphasise community participation in monitoring public programmes and ensuring that resources reach their intended beneficiaries.
