Lira City, Uganda – In a major boost to the city’s infrastructure, the World Bank’s Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development (USMID) project is nearing completion, transforming the face of Lira City. The project, worth 37 billion Ugandan shillings, has rehabilitated seven roads spanning 3.5 kilometers and constructed and rehabilitated Coronation Park and Adyel Children’s Park.
The project, implemented by Al-Nuiami Group and Abubakar Technical Services, has brought new life to the city’s roads, including Boundary, Noteber, Uhuru, Aber, Olwol, and Obangakene roads. The roads now boast fully functional water trenches, street lights, and clearly marked lanes, improving safety and accessibility for residents and visitors alike.
The USMID project has not only upgraded the city’s infrastructure but also enhanced its aesthetic appeal, making it a model for urban development in Uganda. City residents are overjoyed with the transformation, praising the World Bank and the government for their investment in the city’s growth.
