Minister Aceng Champions Digital Innovation in Healthcare

Lira City, Uganda – Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, Minister of Health and Lira City Woman MP, has reiterated the government’s commitment to advancing digital solutions in Uganda’s healthcare sector.

She made these remarks while officiating at the launch of the National Youth Tech Camp on Monday January 6, 2025, organized by Kakebe Technologies, at Lira City Council Hall.

During her speech, Dr. Aceng emphasized that digital transformation is key to improving healthcare services and achieving the Ministry of Health’s broader vision.

“This initiative is in line with our goals for modernizing healthcare in Uganda and enhancing the development of Lango,” she said.

She highlighted the positive impacts of digital transformation on healthcare delivery, noting that it enhances patient care, operational efficiency, and overall innovation.

Dr. Aceng also emphasized the need for patients to be actively involved in their health through technology-driven solutions.

“The adoption of digital tools allows patients to make better-informed decisions about their health, while also improving service delivery at healthcare facilities,” she noted.

Dr. Aceng further stressed the importance of equipping young people with digital skills, describing digital literacy as vital for addressing future challenges in various sectors.

“Digital literacy prepares us for tomorrow’s world. With the right ICT skills, we can tackle problems in health, agriculture, and education,” she said.

She explained that ICT offers opportunities for knowledge-sharing and growth.

“Students can enhance their learning through research, and farmers can apply digital tools to increase productivity. The internet provides access to limitless information that can transform lives,” she explained.

Despite the promising potential of digital transformation, Dr. Aceng acknowledged that Uganda still faces challenges in adopting advanced technologies, particularly in healthcare.

She called for greater investment in ICT infrastructure and specialized digital health systems to accelerate progress.

The launch attracted various stakeholders, including youth leaders and local officials, who commended Dr. Aceng for her unwavering support for digital innovation in the region.
