Speeding Electric Motorcycle Injures Four at Ngetta Ginery

Lira, Uganda | Four people were injured on Sunday after an electric motorcycle knocked down a pedestrian and crashed at Ngetta Ginery along the Lira–Kitgum Road in Lira City, police have said.

The crash occurred at about 1:49pm on February 23, 2026.

Police say the motorcycle, registration number UMA 246JR a blue Spiro electric bike was travelling from Kitgum towards Lira City at high speed when it struck a pedestrian at Ngetta Ginery.

The impact caused the rider to lose control, leading to a crash on the left side of the road with two passengers aboard.

Traffic Police officers led by Sgt Oponi Alex visited the scene and recorded statements.

All the four victims the pedestrian, the rider and two passengers were rushed to Lira Regional Referral Hospital for treatment.

Their condition by press time had not been disclosed.

Police towed the motorcycle to Lira City Central Police Station for inspection as investigations continue.

Confirming the incident, North Kyoga regional police spokesperson SP Patrick Jimmy Okema cautioned road users against speeding, noting a growing number of crashes involving motorcycles.

“Observing speed limits and traffic rules remains critical in preventing avoidable accidents,” SP Okema said.

The case has been registered at Lira City Central Police Station and inquiries are ongoing.
