Lira, Uganda – In an awakening call to fight crime rate in northern Uganda, the youth have been warned to desist from dangerous criminal acts that has deluded the region for a long time.
According to Paul Omara, the manager Daniefa Resort Hotel and Conference Center located in Kichope, Lira City West Division, Lira City, while talking to our reporter today 2nd December 2024, he cited a few of such dangerous activities, including robbery and waylaying the community members which causes havoc in such areas.
“They go into waylaying community members, robbing them and these are dangerous acts that risks their own lives,” says manager Omara.
He decried high number of youths apprehended by police during festive seasons as a result of involving themselves into such activities which not only endangers their future but also their lives as some are lynch by mobs.
According to manager Omara this vicious activities are caused by high rate of poverty, lack of jobs, laziness and idleness in the region and according to him, it can only be dealt with if the youths engage into productive activities
In addition Omara told the public to be their own securities during this festive season by not leaving their homesteads alone inorder to guard their property against criminals who would try trespassing in their homes.
“Do not leave your homes alone, some one might be tempted to break your houses,” added Omara
He also asked the security operatives to strengthen their operations like patrolling city centers and towns to scrap off criminal activities.
“There are places in urban centers including Lira City here that needs to be patrolled regularly by security personnels in order to curb crime,” says Omara.
A number of times criminal cases intensifies during festive seasons and Omara’s call for action comes at the right time to awaken the public to be security conscious and put an end to criminal activities.
