Apac, Uganda | Inspectorate of Government Uganda has arrested Ms Atim Mega, a Senior Agricultural Engineer attached to Apac District Local Government, over allegations of uttering false documents during her recruitment process.
According to the Inspectorate, Atim recorded a statement on Monday at the IG Lira Regional Office and is expected to appear before court in Apac District on May 26, 2026.
Preliminary investigations indicate that in May 2024, Atim applied for the post of Senior Agricultural Engineer in Apac District Local Government and was subsequently appointed.
However, investigators established that an appointment letter dated February 3, 2020, allegedly issued by Itek-Okille Farmers’ Cooperative Society and submitted by Atim as proof of work experience, was disowned by the leadership of the cooperative society.
The Inspectorate said the institution denied ever employing Atim and declared the document a forgery.
The alleged forged appointment letter reportedly formed part of the credentials that enabled her secure the government job.
Section 328 of the Penal Code Act Cap 128 states that any person who knowingly and fraudulently utters a false document commits an offence and is liable to the same punishment as a person convicted of forgery.
The arrest comes amid intensified efforts by the Inspectorate of Government to crack down on fraudulent acquisition of public jobs and forged academic and professional documents in local governments across the country.
