Kalaki, Uganda | Parish Chief and two PDM SACCO leaders in Kalaki District remanded to Kaberamiodo Chief Magistrate Court over charges of extorting money from PDM beneficiaries until 16/06/2026.
These came through efforts made by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, in collaboration with the Criminal Investigation Directorate and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution, that made the three to be arraigned before court.
The three are Joseph Olingo, Parish Chief of Okungure Parish, Kakure Sub-County, James Edwonu, Chairperson of Opungure-Kakure PDM SACCO, and Josphat Ocepa, Secretary of the Opungure-Kakure PDM SACCO.
They appeared before the Kaberamido Chief Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday on charges of Obtaining Money by False Pretenses and Conspiracy to Commit a Felony.
The three, along with others that are still at large, are currently being accused of allegedly obtaining money from over 100 beneficiaries of the PDM in Opungure Parish, Kakure Sub-County, an act that reportedly happened in the year 2024.
They did so by falsely claiming they would include the beneficiaries’ names among those eligible for support from the Opungure-Kakure PDM SACCO, which did not happen, forcing beneficiaries to raise alarm on them.
During the prosecution, the state prosecutor of Chief Magistrate Court Kaberamido, Irene Nabozo, told court that inquiries are still ongoing in the case.
Meanwhile, the Chief Magistrate of Kaberamaido, Her Worship Patricia Ndagire, remanded the three to Kaberamiodo Court until 16/06/2026 after they pleaded not guilty to the charges read before them.
The State House Anti-Corruption Unit, one of the government entities that helps in fighting corruption, is currently taking key interest in cases related to extortion, corruption, and bribery, especially in government programs and plans that are meant to benefit and change the lives of local people.
