Lira City, Uganda – In a stirring address, Geoffrey Ocen Abia, Clan Head/Awitong of Bako Opuk, has issued a passionate plea for unity among the Lango people amidst growing division over the election of the new Lango Paramount Chief. His speech, delivered to a gathering of clan heads and community leaders, underscored the need to resolve conflicts and unite under the leadership of His Highness Eng. Dr. Moses Michael Odongo Okune.

The Lango tribe has been plagued by division and infighting since the election of the new Paramount Chief, with a minority faction of the current Paramount Chief, Wonyaci Mzee Yosam Odur Ebii, refusing to recognize the outcome and threatening to hold their own election. This move has been widely condemned as unconstitutional and a recipe for chaos.

Ocen Abia’s speech was a powerful call to action, urging the Lango people to put aside their differences and unite behind their new leader. “We must not allow the selfish interests of a few individuals to hold us back,” he said. “We must stand together and reject those who seek to divide us.”

The speech highlighted the openness of the new cultural leadership under His Highness Eng. Dr. Moses Michael Odongo Okune to accepting strong opinions and ideas from all corners. This is seen as an effort to promote unity and collaboration among all factions within the Lango community.

Ocen Abia also extended an olive branch to the minority faction, urging them to come back to the majority and start attending council meetings. “We welcome all ideas and opinions,” he said. “We will work together to achieve greatness.”

However, the speech also included a strong warning to the few dissatisfied Owitong who are rejecting the previous election outcome and planning another election. Ocen Abia cautioned that such actions would be treated as rebellion, and the dissidents would face consequences similar to those faced by rebels.

Geoffrey Ocen Abia’s speech serves as a rallying cry for unity and collaboration among the Lango people in the wake of the election of His Highness Eng. Dr. Moses Michael Odongo Okune is the new Paramount Chief. It underscores the importance of resolving conflicts and working together under the new cultural leadership. The road ahead for the Lango tribe will depend on their ability to unite and move forward in a spirit of harmony and mutual respect.
