Kampala, Uganda – Luyimbazi Elias Nalukoola of the National Unity Platform (NUP) has been declared the winner of the Kawempe North parliamentary by-election, further strengthening the party’s dominance in Kampala.
Announced by Returning Officer Makabayi Henry at the Makerere University School of Public Health Auditorium, Nalukoola secured a commanding 17,764 votes.
His closest rival, Namabi Faridah Kigongo of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), trailed behind with 8,593 votes.
Independent candidate Murerwa Hanifah Karadi came third with 381 votes, while other contenders, including Luwemba Lusswa Muhammad (240 votes) and Mukitibi Sadat of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) with 239 votes, followed distantly.
The final tally revealed 27,596 valid votes, 406 rejected ballots and 49 spoiled ballots, totaling 28,002 ballots cast.
Luyimbazi’s decisive win not only reaffirms NUP’s grip on Kampala but also serves as a morale boost for the party as it prepares for the 2026 general elections.
