Kampala, Uganda – Bukoto Central MP, Hon. Richard Sebamala, has called on Democratic Party (DP) President, Hon. Norbert Mao, to withdraw from the party’s leadership, accusing him of tarnishing its public image.
Sebamala’s remarks follow the recent Kawempe by-elections, where he claims the party’s strongest candidate, Kasaacca, has been unfairly blamed for actions allegedly orchestrated by Mao.
Sebamala criticized the cooperation agreement between Mao and President Yoweri Museveni, arguing that it has eroded the party’s credibility and weakened its position in the opposition.
He further accused Mao of using legal technicalities to block his candidacy for the DP presidential race but assured members that such efforts would not deter his ambitions.
Dismissing allegations that he was previously affiliated with the National Resistance Movement (NRM), Sebamala labeled the claims as baseless and part of Mao’s smear campaign.
In a pointed remark, he said, “Mao is a confused confuser. He serves as a minister in the NRM government while still leading an opposition party. Who is fooling who?”
Reaffirming his dedication to the Democratic Party’s core values, Sebamala pledged to restore the party’s integrity and resist any attempts to compromise its independence and mission.
