Graduates of Cavendish University Uganda have been challenged to use their skills to create employment and address challenges in their communities rather than relying solely on the formal job market.

The call was made at the university’s 15th graduation ceremony held at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala, where 1,059 students graduated under the theme, “Graduating Global Talent for Employment, Entrepreneurship and Impact.”

The Guest of Honour, Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives Sanjay Gokaldas Tanna, urged the graduates to demonstrate the value they can bring to employers and society.

“Do not knock on doors asking for a handout. Knock on doors showing them the value you bring,” Tanna said.

He said government’s role is to create an enabling environment, while entrepreneurs and the private sector play a key role in creating jobs.

Tanna encouraged the graduates to embrace courage, innovation and value creation as they begin their professional journeys.

Cavendish University Uganda Chancellor and former Nigerian President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan urged the graduates to look beyond academic qualifications and financial success.

Jonathan challenged them to develop employable skills, embrace entrepreneurship and pursue work that creates a lasting impact.

“Go forth into the global arena,” he told the graduates.

The Class of 2026 brings the university’s total number of graduates from its 15 graduation ceremonies to a growing alumni community of 13,481, according to the institution.

The 1,059 graduands were drawn from four faculties, marking their transition from university education into employment, entrepreneurship and other professional pursuits.
