Former Kole District Woman Member of Parliament Judith Alyek has suffered her second electoral setback in less than a year after rejecting the results of the Okwerodot Sub-county Chairperson Women council election held today Thursday August 20,2026.

Alyek, who contested for the position of Chairperson Women council for Okwerodot Sub-county under the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket, has rejected the results that declared independent candidate Betty Atim the winner.

According to the results announced after the election,Atim polled 21 votes to defeat Alyek, who secured 19 votes.

Atim was subsequently declared the Chairperson Women council for Okwerodot Sub-county 2026-2031 term.

Speaking after the declaration, the returning officer,Paul Awany, said the results were announced in accordance with Uganda’s electoral laws after votes were counted and tallied.

Awany explained that any candidate who is dissatisfied with the results is legally entitled to challenge them through the appropriate procedures.

However,Alyek strongly rejected the outcome, accusing some people of allegedly putting pressure on voters and questioning the manner in which the election was conducted.

Speaking to Radio Q FM,Alyek said she had formally submitted a complaint to the election authorities challenging the results.

She said she had also informed security authorities about her concerns and maintained that the election process did not comply with the NRM party’s rules, particularly regarding the conduct of candidates who did not carry the party flag.

Alyek further accused NRM party officials of failing to enforce party rules against a candidate who, according to her, contested without the official party flag.

Meanwhile, declared winner Betty Atim welcomed the results and said she was ready to begin work and focus on serving residents of Okwerodot Sub-county.

The election for Chairperson Women council for Okwerodot Sub-county was held on Wednesday,August 19,2026,amid allegations and complaints over vote counting, voter pressure and the conduct of candidates.

The dispute now puts the outcome of the election under challenge as Alyek seeks a review of the results through the relevant electoral channels.

The loss marks Alyek’s second electoral defeat within a year, after her earlier unsuccessful bid for the Kole District Woman MP seat.
