Murang’a, Kenya | The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Administration Police Service, Mr. Gilbert Masengeli has officially opened the Changai Police Station in Maragua Constituency, Murang’a County, marking a key development in the government’s efforts to enhance security and law enforcement in the region.
The ceremony, held on Friday, was presided over by DIG Masengeli on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Douglas Kanja.
The new police station is expected to serve as a critical hub for policing activities, helping to deter crime and improve response times to security incidents.
DIG Masengeli highlighted the importance of the station in tackling pressing local challenges, including the distribution and abuse of illicit drugs and the consumption of second-generation alcohol, which continue to pose serious health and social threats.
He underlined the station’s role in promoting safer communities through effective policing.
The Deputy Inspector General acknowledged the support from Mary Wamaua Waithira Njoroge, the area Member of Parliament, who facilitated the construction of the station through the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).
He praised the collaboration between government agencies and local leadership as vital in the successful establishment of the facility.
Emphasising a multi-agency approach to security, DIG Masengeli called for strengthened partnerships among law enforcement, local leaders, National Government Administration Officers, and the community.
He urged all stakeholders to foster open communication, mutual respect, and collaboration to enhance public safety.
The event was attended by senior police and government officials, including APS Director of Logistics Mr. Kisyungu Wambua (SAIG), Central Regional Police Commander Mr. Samuel Ndanyi (AIG), Central Regional Commissioner Mr. Joshua Nkanatha, APS Chief of Staff Mr. Haron Nthiga (AIG), Murang’a County Police Commander Mr. Benjamin Kimwele (CP), AP Regional Police Commander Mr. Somane Farah (CP), APS Peace Corps Ms. Tabitha Ndanu (CP), County Criminal Investigations Officer Mr. Obed Kibiego (SSP), AP County Police Commander Ms. Pauline Muriithi (SSP), and Principal Assistant to the DIG Madam Grace Kamau (SSP).
The inauguration of Changai Police Station is expected to significantly boost security operations within Murang’a County, improving law enforcement presence and enabling more effective crime prevention and community engagement.
This milestone reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring safer environments across Kenya’s counties.
