Dokolo District Council has honoured the late Hon. Odongo Alfred Obete, a former councillor representing Adeknino Sub-county, who died on August 18, 2026, aged 46.
Odongo served on the Dokolo District Council from 2011 to 2016, representing the people of Adeknino Sub-county.
During an emergency council meeting held at the District Council Hall on Friday, August 21, district leaders and councillors paid tribute to Odongo, describing him as a humble, dedicated and peace-loving leader who contributed significantly to the development of Dokolo District.
District Speaker Hon. Bonny Alilo described Odongo as a humble servant, good listener and people’s person whose contribution helped lay the foundation for Adeknino Sub-county.
Alilo said the district had lost not only a former councillor but also a friend and patriot, extending condolences to the people of Adeknino and the bereaved family.
The District LCV Chairperson, Peter Ogwang, said Odongo’s death should bring together his family, friends and leaders to preserve his legacy.
Ogwang urged the family to remain strong and avoid conflicts over the deceased’s property, pledging the district’s support during the mourning period.
John Baptist Okello Okello, a former District LCV Chairperson and current Chairperson of the District Service Commission, who worked with Odongo, described him as a problem solver who preferred dialogue to confrontation.
Okello Okello commended Odongo for his service to the people of Dokolo and urged his family to remain united and build on the foundation he left behind.
While moving the motion, Joel Opota Okuma, Secretary for Social Services and Community-Based Services, described Odongo as open-minded, inquisitive, well-informed and a strong team player who made a contribution to the district’s development.
The councillor representing Adeknino Sub-county, Hon. Okwany Godfrey, said Odongo served his constituents with dedication and commitment, creating opportunities and opening doors for many people during his tenure.
Meanwhile, Hon. Okuk Edward, councillor representing Bata Sub-county, proposed that the district construct a road in Adeknino and name it “Odongo Alfred Obete Road” in recognition of his contribution to the community.
The proposal was warmly received by members of the council.
The District Female Youth Councillor, Emily Vivian Acan, said young people were privileged to inherit Odongo’s legacy, describing him as a man of integrity, peacemaker, father and mentor to many.
Acan called on the bereaved family, particularly the wives, to remain united and set aside grievances that could divide them, saying unity would be critical in raising and supporting the six children left behind.
Odongo was born on October 23, 1979, to the late Yoana Obete and Jusphina Obete.
He died on August 18, 2026, leaving behind wives and six children.
