Amolatar, Uganda – Hon. Dr. Agnes Atim Apea, the Woman Member of Parliament for Amolatar District, celebrated a significant milestone in her life with a Thanksgiving ceremony on November 8, 2024, in Aputi Subcounty.
The event, attended by family, friends, political leaders, and well-wishers, was a heartfelt expression of gratitude for her recovery following a kidney transplant she underwent in India earlier this year.
Dr. Apea, who had been critically ill before her surgery, took the opportunity to thank her constituents, fellow MPs, and the public for their unwavering support and prayers during her health ordeal.
She expressed deep appreciation for the outpouring of love and solidarity that helped her overcome the challenges of the transplant and return to her duties as a servant of the people.
In a moving address, Dr. Apea said, “I stand here today because of God’s grace and the unrelenting prayers and support of my community. This second chance at life is a testament to the power of faith and unity, and I promise to continue serving the people of Amolatar with all my heart.”
Her words resonated deeply with the attendees, as she reiterated her commitment to improving the lives of those she represents.
The ceremony was marked by powerful messages of encouragement and solidarity from several dignitaries.
Lira District Woman MP Hon. Linda Agnes Auma, who represented Speaker Annet Anita Among, lauded Dr. Apea for her integrity and professionalism in Parliament.
In her message, Speaker Among described Dr. Apea as a leader who serves with sincerity and dedication, praising her ability to inspire others.
Emeritus Bishop Rt. Rev. Kami Odur of Lango Diocese also delivered an inspiring message, urging the congregation to trust in God and live with compassion.
He emphasized that every good deed, no matter how small, will return with greater rewards, while evil actions are met with consequences. “If you do good, it will return to you tenfold,” Bishop Odur said.
Hon. Kenny Auma Lapat, the WMP for Kwania and representative of the Lango Parliamentary Group, urged political leaders to foster unity and respect.
She commended Dr. Apea for her collaborative approach with fellow MPs and called on the people of Amolatar to re-elect her in the 2026 elections for continued development.
“Dr. Apea has shown the true spirit of cooperation, and I urge the people of Amolatar to keep her in office to continue the work she has started,” Auma stated.
Kioga North MP Hon. James Olobo Dubai, a strong supporter of Dr. Apea also praised her for organizing the Thanksgiving prayers, emphasizing that the focus of political campaigns should be on addressing the genuine needs of the people, not on negative attacks.
“I’m committed to working on real issues—better infrastructure, healthcare, and education for our people,” Olobo said.
The event also raised over 50 million UGX, with significant donations, including 20 million UGX from President Museveni and Speaker Among.
All funds raised will be directed towards building a Youth Education Centre in Amolatar Town Council, reflecting Dr. Apea’s ongoing commitment to empowering the youth of her district.
As Dr. Apea continues her work as a member of Parliament. Her recovery and the Thanksgiving event serve as a reminder of the power of community, faith, and resilience.
With the support of her constituents and colleagues, Dr. Apea remains steadfast in her mission to serve Amolatar with integrity and passion, promising to continue making a positive difference in the lives of her people.
