Levy Abongo Takes the Helm as Lira Town College’s New Head Teacher

Lira, Uganda – Lira Town College has entered a new chapter as Mr. Levy Abongo officially takes over as Head Teacher, replacing Mr. Okello Joseph in a transition sanctioned by the Ministry of Education.

The handover ceremony, attended by education stakeholders and school authorities, underscored the importance of leadership continuity in advancing the institution’s academic agenda.

Board Chairperson Lilian Ocare assured the school community that the leadership change was a routine government process aimed at strengthening the institution.

“As the oversight body, we welcome this transition. Our role is to ensure that the incoming Head Teacher has a conducive environment to function effectively, maintaining quality education, staff supervision, and school assets,” she stated.

She acknowledged Mr. Okello Joseph’s contributions, commending his ability to stabilize the school and initiate notable projects.

“His leadership qualities have been evident, and we are fortunate that he remains part of the school system to support the new administration,” she added.

Ocare urged staff, students, and the prefectural body to rally behind the new leadership for continued progress.

City Education Officer Andrew Ogwang Oyang highlighted Mr. Okello Joseph’s dedication, noting his ability to steer the school through crucial periods.

“He stepped in at a challenging time and ensured smooth operations. Starting and ending an academic year successfully is no small task, yet he delivered,” Ogwang said.

He called for continued collaboration with the Ministry of Education, urging all stakeholders to extend their support to the incoming Head Teacher.

“Smooth transitions are critical in education management. I encourage Mr. Okello Joseph to offer guidance to Mr. Levy Okodo as he takes on this role,” he added.

In his farewell remarks, Mr. Okello Joseph expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and credited teamwork for the school’s progress.

“I walked into a school that required urgent attention, and through collective efforts, we stabilized and improved its operations. I appreciate the unwavering support from staff, students, and the Board,” he stated.

He urged the school community to embrace the leadership change and work towards academic excellence.

“With unity and commitment, Lira Town College will continue to thrive,” he added.

Taking over the mantle, Mr. Levy Abongo vowed to build on his predecessor’s achievements and implement fresh strategies for growth.

“I recognize the foundation laid by Mr. Okello Joseph and pledge to strengthen it further. My focus is on academic excellence, student welfare, and infrastructural development,” he stated.

He emphasized teamwork, calling on teachers, students, and parents to collaborate in driving the school’s vision forward.

“Success is a collective effort, and I am ready to work with everyone to propel Lira Town College to greater heights,” Mr. Abongo affirmed.

The commitment from the Board of Governors, City Education Office and school community signals a united effort toward excellence in education.
