Arua, Uganda – Police in Arua City have launched an investigation into the mysterious death of Mr. Eric Arumadri, the District Engineer of Madi Okollo, who was found lifeless in a lodge at Chongolia Cell, Awindiri Ward, on Monday, March 24, 2025.
The 37-year-old engineer, a resident of Ewanyapa Cell, Alivu Ward in Ayivu West Division, Arua City, was reportedly on an official assignment when he met his tragic end.
According to police sources, Mr. Arumadri had been sent from his workstation in Madi Okollo to Arua City to purchase corporate T-shirts for the upcoming World Water Day celebrations.
Preliminary police investigations reveal that Mr. Arumadri arrived in Arua City at around 12:30 PM and checked into Room 07 at Home Land Guest House.
He was accompanied by a known female companion whose name wasn’t revealed. Moments later, he collapsed inside the lodge and was rushed to Family Care Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Authorities have since detained the woman at Arua Central Police Station to assist in the ongoing investigations.
Meanwhile, all property inside the lodge room was recovered intact, ruling out any immediate signs of robbery or foul play.
A postmortem examination conducted at Arua Regional Referral Hospital provided shocking revelations about the cause of death.
According to police surgeon Dr. Charles Madrama, Mr. Arumadri suffered from a perforated intestine, leading to internal bleeding.
“This man was a workaholic. At the time of his death, he had completely neglected his body. He did not want to feed himself. The postmortem revealed that there was nothing in his stomach – no food at all. He bled internally due to the perforation,” Dr. Madrama stated.
Medical experts say that an intestinal perforation is a life-threatening condition that can result from untreated ulcers, infections, or prolonged stress and starvation. In Mr. Arumadri’s case, his work-first lifestyle may have contributed to his sudden collapse.
News of Mr. Arumadri’s untimely passing has left the Madi Okollo District administration and the engineering fraternity in shock.
Colleagues describe him as a dedicated professional who gave his all to his work, often prioritizing duty over personal well-being.
Family members, friends, and district officials are now mourning a man whose promising career was cut short in the most unexpected manner.
While the postmortem results indicate a natural cause of death, police are still piecing together Mr. Arumadri’s final moments.
Investigators will interview his acquaintances, including the detained woman, to establish whether there were any additional factors leading to his sudden demise.
As the Madi Okollo District mourns the loss of its engineer, health professionals are using this incident as a reminder of the dangers of work-induced stress and poor self-care.
