MP Acon Vows to Champion Land Rights as Minister for Lands Heads to Otuke

Otuke, Uganda – Otuke East County Member of Parliament, Julius Acon Bua, has called on residents of Ireda Estates, Erute and Ojwina to attend a critical meeting on 13th February 2025 to address longstanding land disputes that have caused unrest in the region.

Acon revealed that the meeting will take place at Ireda Housing Estates, where the State Minister for Lands, Hon. Sam Mayanja, is expected to engage with affected residents ahead of his scheduled visit to Otuke on 14th February 2025.

The Minister’s visit aims to settle major boundary conflicts between Otuke, Abim and Agago districts.

The MP urged all individuals facing land-related challenges to come prepared with supporting documents and formal complaints.

He highlighted the plight of Lango natives who were forcefully evicted from Abim and are now displaced in areas such as Ogor, Ogwete and Olilim.

Their grievances will be a key focus when the Minister visits Barima Village in Anyalima Parish at 9:00 AM to mediate the boundary dispute between Otuke and Abim.

Meanwhile, Otuke Resident District Commissioner (RDC) George Abdul also acknowledged receipt of the letter from the Ministry of Lands.

Abdul noted that since assuming office, he has encountered long-standing land conflicts, particularly along the Otuke-Abim border.

He described the disputes as deeply rooted and a major source of tension in the area.

Abdul welcomed the minister’s intervention, expressing hope that it will pave the way for lasting peace and harmony among the affected communities.

Following the Otuke-Abim meeting, the Minister will proceed to Kamurono Village to address border tensions between Abim and Agago districts.
