MP Julius Acon Bua Distributes Maize Seeds to 25,000 Households in Otuke East

Otuke, Uganda – Hon. Julius Acon Bua, the Member of Parliament for Otuke East, has officially launched the distribution of maize seeds to 25,000 households across his constituency.

This initiative aims to boost agricultural productivity, enhance food security, and support families in financing education through farming income.

Acon revealed that he personally funded the purchase of the maize seeds at UGX 45 million, ensuring that every household in his constituency receives one sack containing 3kg of maize seeds.

The MP emphasized that true leadership is about directly addressing community needs, not merely claiming credit for government programs.

“As a leader, you shouldn’t rely on owning government projects as your own achievements. Instead, focus on lobbying and bringing real solutions that benefit the community directly,” Acon stated.

The maize seed distribution exercise began today, March 17, 2025, covering several parishes in Orum Subcounty.

The process is set to continue tomorrow in Ogor Subcounty and other parts of the constituency to ensure that all 25,000 households receive their share.

During today’s exercise, the following parishes received maize seeds:

1. Anepmoroto Parish – 1,000 households
2. Alangi Parish – 800 households
3. Ating Parish – 750 households
4. Abongorwot Parish – 1,200 households

Acon reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring every targeted family benefits from the program.

While addressing the beneficiaries, Acon urged them to plant the seeds instead of selling them, stressing that the initiative was designed to uplift families economically.

He warned voters against falling for politicians who offer small cash handouts or alcohol, calling such practices an insult to their dignity.

“A cow’s head, when slaughtered, is sold at UGX 50,000. How then do you, as an informed person, allow yourself to be bought cheaply with UGX 1,000 and alcohol? Think long-term and focus on what benefits your family,” Acon advised.

He also emphasized the importance of timing planting properly to maximize yields, given the start of the rainy season.

Bosco Okullu, Acon’s Political Assistant and LCIII Chairperson for Orum Subcounty, commended the initiative, noting that Acon has been distributing maize seeds for 10 years.

He said the program has helped families pay school fees, acquire land, construct homes, and purchase animals.

Loy Oyaro (40), a mother of seven from Oyuu Village, Anepmoroto Parish, thanked Acon for his continued support in fighting poverty through agriculture.

She said the maize harvest would enable her to pay school fees for her children.

Lemo Jenecio (73), an elderly resident, described the initiative as a lifeline that would help him escape poverty and improve his standard of living.

Thompson Okello, a youth from Anepmoroto Parish, praised Acon for consistently providing timely support and called on his fellow youth to embrace farming instead of engaging in crime.

Ogwang Bosco, LC1 Chairperson for Amunga Village, hailed Acon for empowering communities through agriculture, saying the initiative was changing lives and lifting people out of poverty.

Acon assured constituents that he would continue expanding his development programs to include vulnerable groups such as the elderly and persons with disabilities.

He urged those without national IDs to register, stressing their importance in accessing government services and participating in elections.

Additionally, he warned against fraud involving Lango War Claimants, cautioning against the illegal sale of data cards meant for compensation beneficiaries.

With today’s successful launch, the distribution exercise will continue tomorrow in Ogor Subcounty, ensuring that all 25,000 households receive their share.

Acon’s consistent agricultural empowerment programs continue to set him apart as a leader committed to tangible development.

By prioritizing long-term solutions over short-term political handouts, he remains a strong advocate for agricultural transformation in Otuke East.

The maize seed distribution is expected to cover more areas in the coming days, reinforcing Acon’s legacy of empowering farmers in his constituency.
