Lira, Uganda – Hon. Sodrick Ogwang, Youth Chairperson of Lira District, has emphasized the importance of unity and love in youth leadership, stating that they are essential pillars of effective governance.
Speaking on a local radio station in Lira, Ogwang reflected on his tenure, highlighting key milestones that have elevated the welfare of young people across the district.
“Since I took office, we have achieved a lot, and that’s why people say the youth of Lira are leading the fight against poverty,” Ogwang said.
Among his major accomplishments, Ogwang cited the restoration of harmony among youth, which he noted had been disrupted by divisive politics.
He also revealed his efforts in tracing and reviving the Youth Livelihood Program (YLP) and educating young people on financial literacy and resource management.
His advocacy for youth inclusion in the Parish Development Model (PDM) bore fruit, securing 30% of PDM funds for youth projects.
According to Ogwang, 33 youth groups in Lira District have already benefited from YLP funding.
He also noted that through partnerships with Housing Support Group, some youth groups have been equipped with machines to enhance their income-generating activities.
In addition, Ogwang facilitated the registration of youth in PDM committees at various parishes and spearheaded a malaria prevention campaign by training 50 youth volunteers to combat the disease, which remains a major health concern in the community.
Ogwang’s leadership approach, marked by inclusivity and pragmatic solution, has positioned Lira District as a model of youth-driven development.
Ogwang’s future in politics looks promising, and many believe he can run for any elective position in 2026 generalelections.
