Otuke, Uganda | Otuke District Local Government has successfully concluded a four-day exercise to hand over and take over headteacher offices in 15 primary schools, marking a new chapter in the district’s educational leadership.
The exercise culminated yesterday at Anepmoroto P.7 Primary School, where outgoing Headteacher Mr. Olel John Bosco Awany officially handed over to Mr. Oyang Felix.
The ceremony was attended by school staff, PTA and SMC members, and district officials.
During the event, PTA Chairperson Mr. Ogwal Jasper raised concerns over staffing at the school. He said three teachers were recently transferred, but only two replacements were provided, leaving 15 teachers to manage 1,369 pupils.
Mr. Ogwal called on the district to address the staffing gap to ensure quality education.
SMC Chairperson John Bosco Anyim expressed gratitude to the District Education Officer (DEO) and Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for their support, emphasizing the collaborative efforts that have improved school performance.
Representing the DEO, Senior Education Officer Mr. Ochero Patrick described Anepmoroto P.7 as a “high-profile institution” and cautioned against absenteeism and inadequate lesson preparation, noting the risk of unfinished syllabuses by year-end.
He urged teachers to adhere to professional standards and called on the new headteacher to meet the expectations of parents and stakeholders.
Internal Auditor Mr. Francis Okello highlighted the importance of vigilant oversight by PTA and SMC members, stressing that the headteacher’s leadership is crucial in enforcing teacher attendance and ensuring pupils are learning.
PS-CAO Mr. Nyanga Lameck praised the DEO’s office and district officials for their commitment during the four-day exercise, which overcame challenging terrain and long distances.
He tasked the new headteacher, PTA, and SMC to turn Anepmoroto P.7 into a “talking compound,” suggesting the installation of educational displays and signposts, as well as procuring three flags—Uganda, East Africa, and the school/Lango flag—to foster a dynamic learning environment.
The handover marks a smooth transition of leadership, reinforcing the district’s commitment to quality education and effective school management.
