Kwania, Uganda | Police in Kwania District are investigating the killing of a 50-year-old woman following a violent confrontation over UGX 7,000 at a trading centre in Ayabi Sub-county.
The deceased, Apio Everlyn, a peasant farmer from Ogwil Village, was allegedly assaulted on February 15, 2026, while demanding payment for maize she had supplied to a produce shop at Aweiwot Trading Centre.
According to police, a disagreement over the UGX 7,000 debt escalated into a physical altercation involving the shop operator, Alobo Flavia, and another individual, Oyom Edmond, who allegedly joined the assault.
Apio later returned home but her condition worsened in the evening.
She was rushed to a nearby drug shop by her son, but she died later that day before receiving advanced medical attention.
The matter was reported at Ayabi Town Council Police Station and later registered at Kwania Central Police Station as a murder case.
A team of officers led by IP Dila Maxwell, the Officer in Charge of Ayabi Town Council Police Station, together with detectives and scene-of-crime personnel, documented the scene, recorded witness statements, and facilitated a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
By press time, no arrests had been made, though police said efforts to trace and apprehend the suspects were ongoing.
In a statement, Patrick Jimmy Okema, the Public Relations Officer for the North Kyoga Region, urged the public to remain calm and to cooperate with police as investigations continue.
