Otuke, Uganda – Residents of Otuke District and the wider Lango community are mourning the passing of Hon. Etuku James, the Mayor (LC III Chairperson) of Adwari Town Council, who died on Sunday morning at Mengo Hospital in Kampala.
His brother, Mr. Okuk Francis, confirmed the sad news, stating that Hon. Etuku succumbed to high blood pressure and prostate cancer at around 8:00 AM.
He revealed that the illness worsened shortly after the mayor’s birthday celebration on February 17, when he began experiencing swollen legs.
The family then decided to seek medical attention at Mengo Hospital.
“After conducting several tests, doctors diagnosed him with high blood pressure and prostate cancer. He underwent surgery on March 19, which was successful, but his condition deteriorated on Saturday evening, leading to his passing on Sunday morning,” Okuk explained.
Hon. Moses Dyanglango, the Adwari Town Council representative to Otuke District Council, described the late mayor as a dedicated and honest leader who left a lasting impact on both the political and academic sectors.
“The death of Mayor Etuku is a great loss, not just to his family but also to the people of Otuke District. He was a leader who was friendly to all and committed to serving with integrity,” Dyanglango said.
Efforts to reach Otuke District LCV Chairperson, Hon. Francis Abola, for a comment were unsuccessful, as his phone was unreachable.
Hon. Etuku James passed away at the age of 68, leaving behind his wife, Imat Jolly Etuku and nine children.
The burial date will be announced later, and he will be laid to rest at his home in Amitomot Cell, Aliwang Ward, Adwari Town Council, Otuke District.
