Soroti, Uganda – Police in Soroti have closed Jozan Nursery and Primary School after the body of six-year-old Apio Joan Faith, a Primary One pupil, was discovered in a locked latrine on the school premises under suspicious circumstances.
Authorities have arrested four school staff members, including the school director, head teacher, deputy head teacher and matron, as investigations continue.
The school watchman is also expected to provide a statement.
Police believe the child may have died the day before her body was found, but the matter was only reported at 6 PM, raising serious concerns about negligence or foul play.
The discovery has fueled suspicions of ritual sacrifice, a theory investigators are exploring.
To prevent unrest, Soroti East Division Deputy Resident City Commissioner Aipo Clare announced the school’s closure, instructing all parents to pick up their children immediately.
A stakeholder meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday to determine the school’s fate.
Police have deployed heavily at the school to maintain order, urging calm as investigations unfold.
Authorities have called on anyone with information to come forward as they work to deliver justice for Apio Joan Faith and her grieving family.
