Amolatar, Ugandda | Sowers of Love Charities, a non-governmental organization operating in Amolatar, Kaberamaido, kalaki and Soroti District on Thursday 13th August 2026 officially commissioned and handed over seven drainable dry box, five-stance latrine blocks to five schools in five subcounties across Amolatar District.
Clement Okot, the project implementing partner and Surge for water consultant, stated that the
project, completed within six months from February to August 2026, was done through co-
funding between, its international partner Surge for Water, and local communities who are direct
beneficiaries.
Okot, pointed out laxity by some community to contribute co-funding, like at Opir Primary
School in Nalubwoyo Sub County that missed out and bad weather that hampered speedy
implementation of the projects. He however praised the community of Acii, Abwockwar, Omara Ebek primary school and
Amolatar secondary school for actively playing their part that made the project a success.
Beyond the seven latrine blocks commissioned on Thursday, adding to the earlier ones they have
so far constructed 14 latrine facilities, bringing the district-wide total to 70 stances.
Additionally, the NGO also drilled 10 new boreholes in the district and rehabilitated eight others,
then supplied clean safe water bio-filters to put in all classrooms in the four schools.
Amolatar District Water Engineer, Okabo Said, who supervised the construction and
rehabilitation works, commended Sowers of Love and the school administrators for their smooth
coordination.
Eng. Okabo Said, disclosed that water coverage in Acii, Etam and Nalibwoyo sub county has
increased from 58% to 59.5%, with this support.
Denis Odur Obia, the headteacher Amolatar Secondary School who hosted the commissioning
ceremony, praised the organization for its clear impact and transparency, noting that while many
groups operate a brief case model, Sowers of Love has proven to be a genuine and reliable
partner.
Principal Assistant Secretary Ms. Susan Acio, who represented the Chief Administrative Officer
(CAO), expressed gratitude to both Sowers of Love and Surge for Water for supplementing
government programs, promising that the district will always avail an enabling environment.
Meanwhile, Margaret Olul, the District Vice Chairperson for Amolatar called on the public to
embrace strict ownership and sustainability of the projects by preventing livestock from
damaging the newly established infrastructure.
