The deceased has been identified as Odongo Jimmy, 32, a peasant farmer and resident of Barobia Cell in Worwmaka Ward, Agulu Division, Apac Municipality.
According to the Uganda Police Force in the North Kyoga Region, Jimmy had been arrested together with another suspect in connection with a burglary and theft case reported at Apac Central Police Station.
Police spokesperson SP Patrick Jimmy Okema stated that the incident stemmed from a break-in at A-One Hotel on the night of March 7, 2026, during which property valued at about sh150,000 was stolen.
Following the incident, police arrested Okwir Calvin, a watchman, and his friend Odongo Jimmy to assist with investigations. Both suspects were detained at Apac Central Police Station.

Police officers on duty then isolated Jimmy from other suspects and placed him in a separate cell for safety.
The following morning, March 10 at about 8:00am, officers conducting the routine suspects’ parade reportedly noticed that Jimmy looked weak. The Officer in Charge of the station immediately directed that he be rushed to hospital for medical attention.
Jimmy was transported in a police patrol vehicle to Apac Main Hospital, where he was examined by medical personnel and later pronounced dead.
Police said a case of sudden death has since been registered, and the body transferred to the hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
The Apac Police Management Team, led by the Officer in Charge of Station Timothy Nkamwesiga, also met with the deceased’s family members and clan leaders to brief them about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
