Dokolo, Uganda – A 25-year-old police officer, PC Batambwire Abel, tragically lost his life from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on the morning of March 20, 2025, along the Lira-Soroti highway, near Aminkwach Swamp in Dokolo Town Council.
The young officer, attached to Agwata Town Council Police Station, was en route to Dokolo Central Police Station (CPS) for a briefing when the accident occurred.
The incident took place at around 5:45 a.m. when PC Batambwire was riding his Yamaha motorcycle, registered under UP 8475, and lost control after striking a road hump.
His bike veered off the road, colliding with metallic guardrails. The officer sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Olimpat Medical Centre in Dokolo for initial treatment before being transferred to Lira Regional Referral Hospital for further examination.
A CT scan revealed the extent of his injuries, prompting his referral to Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala.
Unfortunately, despite all efforts to save him, PC Batambwire Abel succumbed to his injuries on the evening of March 25, 2025.
The tragic news has shaken the police force and the broader community.
SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, the North Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident with deep sorrow.
“It is really very unfortunate losing this young officer who was a big resource to the institution. Our condolences go to the bereaved family, and necessary arrangements are being made for a decent burial,” Okema said.
The police spokesperson also revealed that an investigation into the cause of the accident has been launched.
PC Batambwire Abel’s untimely death has sent shockwaves through the police force, where colleagues have expressed grief over the loss of a dedicated officer who was just beginning his career.
