11 Students Discharged After Battery Explosion at Ngai Senior Secondary School

Oyam, Uganda – Eleven students from Ngai Senior Secondary School have been discharged from hospitals after sustaining injuries in a battery explosion that occurred in one of the classrooms.

The incident, which resulted in the death of Senior One student Ayoo Immaculate from Abere Trading Centre, happened as students fled for safety.

Benson Dilla Oyuku, the LCV Chairperson for Oyam District, addressed the public this morning at St. Peter’s Church in Anyeke, revealing that 30 students were hospitalized following the explosion.

According to Dilla, the explosion occurred when an unidentified student brought a battery into the classroom, causing it to detonate while students attempted to escape the scene.

Dilla expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased student and offered support to the injured. He also emphasized the importance of enhancing safety measures in schools to prevent similar incidents in the future.

On a political note, Dilla urged Christians to pray for good leadership and avoid engaging in actions that promote wickedness.

He highlighted the need for unity within the community, encouraging Christians to focus on building stronger educational foundations at home rather than participating in divisive political struggles.

The LCV Chairperson shared that the pressures of politics have affected his health, leading to noticeable weight loss. He called for a balanced approach to leadership, emphasizing the well-being of individuals and communities.

In her remarks, Eunice Dilla encouraged Christians to use the occasion of Jesus Christ’s resurrection as a time for personal transformation.

She urged forgiveness within families and communities, noting that reconciliation could lead to healing and unity.

Peter Otim, commonly known as Peter Boy, ordinand at Anyeke St. Peter’s Church in Oyam Urban Archdeaconry, delivered a sermon based on the Gospel of St. Matthew.

He warned that the current societal challenges, including negative behaviors such as witchcraft, can be avoided by drawing closer to Jesus Christ.

Otim also cautioned students against taking phones to school, highlighting the negative impact they can have on their studies.

He stressed that spending excessive time on phones, particularly during the night, hampers academic focus. Otim urged students to behave responsibly during the holiday period to secure their futures.
