The re-election of PDM SACCO leaders in three areas of Dokolo South Constituency has concluded following the intervention of the Office of the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), which oversaw the exercise after previous elections were disrupted by misunderstandings, insecurity, ignorance and other challenges.
The re-elections were conducted at Oyeng Opere PDM SACCO in Kwera Sub-County, Anyacoto Okwongodul PDM SACCO in Okwongodul Sub-County, and Western Ward Dokolo PDM SACCO in Dokolo Town Council.
At Oyeng Opere PDM SACCO, Adur Dorcus was elected Treasurer with 518 votes, defeating Aisu Dorcus, who obtained 440 votes.
At Anyacoto Okwongodul PDM SACCO, Ogwal Calvin emerged Chairperson with 519 votes, while Amuli Jonathan won the Secretary position with 474 votes. Adero Molly was elected Treasurer after securing 463 votes.
At Western Ward Dokolo PDM SACCO, Eladu Pascal won the Chairperson position with 877 votes, defeating incumbent Tepi Calvin, who polled 232 votes. Ocen Patrick was elected Vice Chairperson with 659 votes, while Ocen Boniface won the Treasurer’s position with 615 votes.
Addressing the beneficiaries and newly elected leaders, Resident District Commissioner Babra Akech called for transparency and accountability in the management of PDM funds.
She strongly warned SACCO leaders against extorting money from beneficiaries, particularly under the guise of profiling names or facilitating access to PDM funds.
Akech urged PDM beneficiaries to become watchdogs of the programme, closely monitoring how their SACCO leaders manage and distribute the funds.
She directed the leaders to prioritize households that have not yet benefited from the programme and warned against double payments, favouritism and paying relatives at the expense of genuine beneficiaries.
She also blamed some beneficiaries for contributing to corruption by offering money to SACCO leaders in exchange for preferential treatment, warning that such practices would not guarantee them access to PDM funds.
Akech further challenged beneficiaries to use PDM funds for productive activities aimed at improving household incomes and fighting poverty, cautioning them against reckless spending, including excessive drinking and other forms of misuse.
The Assistant Resident District Commissioner for Dokolo South Constituency, Isaac Oceng Otime, called for unity between the newly elected leaders and those who lost the elections.
Oceng urged the successful leaders to put the election contest behind them and immediately organize beneficiaries to facilitate the disbursement of funds held in their respective SACCO accounts.
The conclusion of the re-elections now places responsibility on the newly elected SACCO leaders and beneficiaries to ensure that PDM funds reach the intended households and are used for their intended purpose.
