Kole, Uganda | Lira Regional Referral Hospital has extended essential and specialised healthcare services to communities in Kole District through an integrated outreach held at Alito Health Centre III.
The outreach, conducted on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, offered a wide range of services including maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH), obstetrics and gynecology, dental care, ultrasound scanning, HIV prevention, mental health assessment, eye care, laboratory diagnostics, and general outpatient treatment.
Speaking during the exercise, Senior Consultant Paediatrician Dr. William Oyang, who led the team on behalf of Hospital Director Dr. Andrew Odur commended residents for embracing the initiative, noting that such outreaches are critical in improving access to quality healthcare.
He said the hospital remains committed to conducting regular community outreaches to bridge gaps in healthcare access, particularly for underserved populations.
Dr. Oyang added that the team also built capacity among health workers at Alito Health Centre III, equipping them with skills in cancer screening and ultrasound use to strengthen service delivery at the lower-level facility.
He noted that many expectant mothers who turned up for the outreach had never undergone ultrasound scans before, describing their response to the service as overwhelmingly positive.
A total of 675 residents benefited from the outreach, receiving timely medical attention within their locality. The initiative helped to ease the burden of travelling long distances to access specialised care.
The outreach forms part of the hospital’s broader strategy to improve health outcomes and ensure equitable access to quality healthcare services across the region, particularly in hard-to-reach communities.
Lira Regional Referral Hospital reiterated its commitment to strengthening community health systems through sustained outreach programs aimed at ensuring no one is left behind in accessing essential health services.
