Soroti, Uganda | The release of the 2025 Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) results has boosted morale among inmates at Soroti Main Prison, with candidates registering encouraging outcomes that prison officials say have renewed hope within the facility.
Twelve inmates sat the national examinations, with one attaining Division One, nine securing Division Two and two placed in Division Three.
Officials said the results were received with excitement not only among the candidates but also across the wider inmate community, where education is increasingly viewed as a pathway to personal change.
The best performer, Kawuma Rogers, scored 11 aggregates, earning praise from instructors and fellow learners.
Prison authorities noted that academic achievement plays a significant role in motivating inmates to adopt positive behaviour and long-term goals.
They added that education programmes contribute to calmness, improved conduct and cooperation within the prison environment.
Under the Uganda Prisons Service rehabilitation framework, eligible inmates are supported to sit national examinations administered by the Uganda National Examinations Board (Uneb).
Officials say outcomes such as those recorded at Soroti Main Prison demonstrate the psychological and social value of education in custody, beyond academic certification.
The results, they noted, have strengthened confidence in prison-based learning as an effective rehabilitation tool.
