The Luo community has been urged to turn up in large numbers for the forthcoming Luo Legacy Dinner, an event aimed at celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the Luo people while fostering unity, networking and socio-economic transformation.
Speaking ahead of the event, Robert Okodia, the Lango Sub-region Focal Person for the Luo Legacy Dinner, described the gathering as more than just a social occasion, saying it is a platform for preserving Luo identity and inspiring future generations. The dinner is scheduled for Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Sheraton Kampala Hotel under the theme, “Building Bridges, Inspiring Change.”
Okodia said the dinner will bring together cultural leaders, professionals, business people, youth and friends of the Luo community from across the country. He noted that the event will celebrate Luo traditions, honour outstanding sons and daughters of the community, create opportunities for mentorship, investment and strategic partnerships, and officially launch the Luo Digital Museum, an initiative aimed at preserving and showcasing the history, culture and achievements of the Luo people through modern digital technology.
He said guests will also enjoy authentic Luo cuisine, explore exhibitions of cultural artifacts that showcase the community’s rich heritage, and be treated to traditional music and dance performances. The evening will further feature special tributes recognising distinguished sons and daughters of the Luo community whose contributions have had a lasting impact on society.
Okodia said the Luo Foundation intends to use the dinner as a platform to encourage the preservation of cultural values while embracing innovation and development, stressing that the community’s heritage should remain a source of pride and inspiration for future generations. He noted that the launch of the Luo Digital Museum demonstrates the Foundation’s commitment to safeguarding the community’s history for future generations while making it accessible to the world.
He called upon all Luo people and friends of the community to attend the event in elegant attire and participate in building a lasting legacy. He said the occasion presents a unique opportunity to strengthen unity, share ideas, celebrate culture and reaffirm the community’s commitment to progress.
