Boda Boda Rider Murdered During Introduction Ceremony in Lira City

Lira, Uganda | Police in Lira City West Division have launched investigations into the murder of a 30-year-old boda boda rider who was allegedly assaulted during an introduction ceremony in Barapwo Ward, Lira City.

The deceased has been identified as Ekol Walter, a resident of Anai Okii Cell in Anai Ward. Police said the incident occurred on the night of January 30, 2026, at an introduction ceremony held at the home of Saidi Okello Ogole in Elwa Cell.

According to police, a fight reportedly broke out during the function involving a man identified only as Samson and other individuals.

Ekol is said to have intervened in an attempt to stop the altercation. However, the suspects allegedly turned on him, assaulted him, and forcefully removed him from the ceremony to an unknown location.

On the morning of January 31, 2026, Ekol’s body was discovered dumped near the home of Ogwanga Walter in Ongica “A” Cell, Barapwo Ward.

The matter was reported to the local council leadership, who alerted officers at Anai Police Post.

Police said a murder case was initially registered at Anai Police Post before being transferred to Lira City West Division.

Officers from the Homicide Team and Scenes of Crime visited and documented the scene, while statements from witnesses were recorded.

The body was conveyed to Lira Regional Referral Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.

Police are currently hunting for the prime suspect, Samson, and other accomplices who are still at large. Investigations are ongoing.

The North Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, said more information will be released as inquiries progress.
