Dokolo, Uganda | Dokolo Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Babra Akech has warned leaders against extorting Parish Development Model (PDM) beneficiaries, saying those demanding money from recipients will face action.

Akech said her office had received complaints of leaders soliciting money from beneficiaries and alleged unfair distribution of PDM funds, including cases where some households reportedly benefited more than once.

She spoke on Thursday while overseeing the re-election of PDM SACCO leaders in Amwoma Sub-county.

The elections were held at Amwoma Amwoma PDM SACCO in Amwoma Parish and Aburcero Amwoma PDM SACCO in Aburcero Parish.

Akech urged beneficiaries to report corruption and extortion directly to her office, saying authorities had recovered more than Shs100 million allegedly obtained from beneficiaries through solicitation.

She said PDM, Emyooga, restocking, Youth Livelihood Programme (YLP) and programmes for persons with disabilities were introduced by the government to fight household poverty.

At Amwoma Amwoma PDM SACCO, Amony Dorcus was elected treasurer with 129 votes against Alobo Proscovia’s 96.

At Aburcero Amwoma PDM SACCO, Ongia Rolex defeated incumbent chairperson Joko Felix with 402 votes against 367.

Ogwal Willy, the district councillor representing Amwoma, reminded beneficiaries that PDM funds are revolving and urged them to repay to allow other households to benefit.

Amwoma LCIII chairperson Opono Denis urged the new SACCO leaders to serve beneficiaries fairly and warned against extortion.

Gombolola Internal Security Officer (GISO) Ogut David cautioned leaders against abusing their positions, saying those involved in corruption could face prosecution.
