Three people have been arrested in Kaberamaido District over alleged irregularities in the implementation of the Parish Development Model (PDM) and cattle restocking programme.
The suspects are Elesu Patrick, the Parish Chief of Okile Parish; Anyoti Martin, chairperson of Okile Parish SACCO; and Odongo Michael, the LC2 chairperson of Okile Parish.
Their arrest followed an accountability Baraza held in Okile Sub-county on September 3, 2026, organised by the Office of the Resident District Commissioner (RDC).
During the meeting, RDC Godfrey Nyakahuma directed the Kaberamaido Central Police Station (CPS) Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to arrest the trio following complaints raised by residents over the management of PDM and cattle restocking programmes.
The suspects are accused of allegedly obtaining beneficiaries’ national identification cards and SIM cards under false pretences, demanding money from beneficiaries and irregularities in the vetting of beneficiaries.
The RDC also directed security authorities to summon several officials over the alleged disappearance of Shs31 million that was reportedly allocated as start-up funds for the newly created Okile Sub-county.
Those summoned include Edwogu Moses, the former acting sub-county chief; Ebusu Elasu; Okar Maurice, the former sub-county accountant; and Engwau Isaac, the LCIII chairperson of Okile Sub-county.
The officials have been asked to record statements with police as investigations continue.
The arrests are part of an ongoing district-wide accountability exercise targeting alleged corruption, misuse of public funds and irregularities in the implementation of government programmes.
District authorities say 11 people have so far been remanded to Kaberamaido Government Prison in connection with alleged misuse of PDM funds and cattle restocking activities.
The accountability Baraza exercise is being conducted across all sub-counties in Kaberamaido District from September 3 to 13, giving residents an opportunity to raise concerns over government programmes and report suspected abuse of public resources.
RDC Nyakahuma has urged residents to provide information on suspected misuse of government programmes to enable authorities to investigate and take appropriate action.
The suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.
