The Dr. Obote College Alumni Taskforce has called upon all Old Boys (OBs) and Old Girls (OGs) of Dr. Obote College, Boroboro, to actively participate in mobilising alumni ahead of the forthcoming elections for the alumni leadership. The elections are scheduled to take place on 12 December 2026 at the Dr. Obote Boroboro Campus in Lira City.
These resolutions were made on 28 October 2026 at the Dr. Obote College campus in Lira City East Division during a management meeting on how the forthcoming elections will be conducted. The Taskforce also urged all alumni to reach out to former classmates, reconnect with fellow alumni to share information about the upcoming elections, and encourage participation across all generations of former students. Every alumnus and alumna has a significant role to play in strengthening our shared identity, fostering unity, and shaping the future of our alumni community.
Speaking to this publication on Friday, 30 October 2026, the Chairperson of the Dr. Obote College Alumni, Professor Dr. Alex Ario Otema, called upon OBs and OGs across Uganda and abroad to support a transparent, inclusive, and credible electoral process that will establish accountable, visionary, and forward-looking leadership. He emphasised that broad participation will be essential in ensuring that the process reflects the collective aspirations and interests of the entire alumni fraternity.
Chaired by Dr. Ario, the Taskforce added that these elections represent an important milestone in revitalising the Dr. Obote College alumni community and establishing a sustainable platform for collaboration, mentorship, networking, resource mobilisation, and meaningful support for the College and its current students. A united and actively engaged alumni community can make a lasting contribution to the institution’s continued growth and development.
The Taskforce therefore encourages all OBs and OGs to save the date, 12 December 2026, and make every effort to attend the elections at Boroboro Campus. Your presence, participation, and contribution will be vital to this important process. The elections will provide OBs and OGs with an opportunity to choose leaders who will represent their interests, coordinate alumni activities, mobilise resources, strengthen regional and international networks, and promote meaningful engagement with the College.
According to Dr. Ario, the leadership positions include President, Vice President, General Secretary, Deputy General Secretary, Treasurer, three (3) Committee Members, and a Public Relations Officer. In addition, Regional Coordinators will be elected or appointed to spearhead alumni mobilisation, networking, and coordination across the following regions and networks: Acholi, Ankole, Bugisu, Bukedi, Bunyoro, Busoga, Kampala, Karamoja, Kigezi, Lango, Teso, North Buganda, South Buganda, Tooro, West Nile, and Diaspora. Further information regarding nominations, eligibility requirements, election procedures, and other logistical arrangements will be communicated through the designated alumni mobilisation channels.
Additionally, Chairperson Professor Dr. Alex Ario Otema encouraged all members of the Dr. Obote College family to seize this opportunity to reconnect with one another, strengthen their bonds, and collectively build a vibrant, united, and enduring alumni community. “Together we can reconnect, unite, and build a stronger Dr. Obote College alumni fraternity,” he said.
Prof. Otema noted that Dr. Obote College has historically been a leading institution in producing scientists in Uganda. While academic standards may have declined slightly over time, alumni are now committed to restoring the school’s former glory.
The school’s Headteacher, Rev. Dick Alengo, revealed that the institution currently has an enrolment of about 1,000 students, including 102 female learners.he said during the Taskforce meeting and end by led members of the Taskforce to tour the Science Block site
He called upon all alumni of the College to join hands and support the project. He noted that they are making progress with the construction of the new modern laboratory, for which the management and Board of Governors have allocated five billion shillings.
The facilities will serve students at both “O” and “A” levels, with the theme of achieving excellence through discipline and faith. Finally, he added that Dr. Obote College was once a trademark institution in the country for academics, and the goal is to restore it to its past glory. Historically, Dr. Obote College led in producing scientists in the country. “It has not lost that story; only the standard went down a bit, but we are reverting to where it was before,” he concluded.
