Mbale, Uganda – Mbale Regional Referral Hospital has today, February 19, 2025, discharged its first Ebola survivor after successful treatment.
The patient, a mother, got infected after caring for her son, who later died and was buried in Namunsi, Mbale City.
She was treated at the hospital’s Ebola center and has now fully recovered.
Hospital director Daniel Mwayafu praised the medical team, saying, “The doctors worked hard, and she is now free from Ebola.”
Mbale Resident City Commissioner Asumin Nasike gave the patient a certificate confirming she is Ebola-free and asked the community to welcome her back.
She also urged people to report any suspected cases to stop the spread of the disease.
The recovered patient thanked the doctors and warned people to take Ebola seriously.
Authorities say 128 people who had contact with Ebola cases were quarantined.
So far, 120 have been released and the last 28 will be discharged on Friday.
Health officials are still watching the situation and asking everyone to stay alert.
