Kampala, Uganda – Uganda Premier League giants KCCA FC have officially sacked Head Coach Abdallah Mubiru following a humiliating 4-0 loss to Kitara FC last weekend.
The decision came after a club meeting on Wednesday, where management determined that Mubiru was not meeting the expectations of the 13-time league champions.
Mubiru was appointed on November 13, 2023, replacing Portuguese coach Sergio Daniel Traguil, who left the club the previous month.
His dismissal marks the end of a turbulent 16-month second stint at the Lugogo-based club, during which he signed a two-year contract.
Under Mubiru’s leadership, KCCA FC finished fifth last season. However, the current 2024/25 campaign has been challenging—after 22 matches, the team sits sixth in the league with 34 points, having secured nine wins, seven draws, and six losses. They have scored 28 goals while conceding 18.
The final straw for Mubiru came with the crushing defeat to Kitara FC at Royals Park Butema. Earlier in the season, he had referred to Kitara as a “small team,” a comment that dramatically backfired.
Mubiru’s overall record at KCCA FC stands at 23 wins, 10 draws, and 11 losses in 44 Uganda Premier League matches.
In response to this change, KCCA FC has appointed Jackson Kaddu Magera, Mubiru’s second assistant, as the interim head coach. Magera will lead the team starting with a crucial home fixture against BUL FC at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo this Saturday.
