Kwania, Uganda | Kwania District has signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Field of Hope Building Resilience Organisation to strengthen efforts aimed at reducing poverty and improving livelihoods among vulnerable communities.
The agreement, which will run from 2026 to 2028, was signed on Thursday during an inception meeting held at the district boardroom. The meeting attracted district political and technical leaders, including the LCV chairperson, district speaker, council secretaries, civil servants and officials from the organisation.
Field of Hope Building Resilience Country Director Okullu Walter said the organisation’s interventions would focus on empowering women and youth through agriculture, education, livestock farming, savings groups and leadership development.
Walter explained that the organisation had come to support women engaged in small businesses, including farming, livestock keeping and village savings groups, while also assisting young people who are still in school.
He noted that the organisation had already commenced operations in Abongomola Sub-county and Ayabi Town Council, as well as in Inomo Secondary School, Abongomola Seed Secondary School and Aduku Secondary School.
According to Walter, the organisation’s mission is to build resilience in livelihoods, food and nutritional security among resource-constrained communities through youth agricultural development, education support, smallholder farmer advancement and leadership development.
Deputy Chief Administrative Officer Robert Okwanga Alem welcomed the partnership, saying local governments are willing to work with organisations that comply with government requirements and contribute to community development.
Okwanga expressed confidence that the organisation’s programmes in agriculture and livelihood improvement would complement government efforts aimed at eradicating poverty among households.
Kwania District Councillor and Secretary for Health, Education and Community-Based Services Fred Niara said the partnership would help ensure development programmes and services effectively reach communities at the grassroots.
Assistant Resident District Commissioner Ceasor Obada urged the organisation to remain committed to implementing activities that directly benefit residents and fulfil the objectives for which it was invited to the district.
Closing the meeting, Kwania District LCV Chairperson George KK Akacha described Field of Hope as a development-oriented organisation whose programmes align with the district’s priorities and efforts to address socio-economic challenges.
Akacha pledged continued support to development partners and said the district would continue attracting organisations willing to invest in initiatives that improve the welfare of residents.
The inception meeting marked the official commencement of the partnership, which stakeholders believe will contribute significantly to improving household incomes, food security and community resilience across Kwania District.
