Kampala, Uganda | Tension is mounting within the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) in Lira City after mayoral hopeful Morris Chris Ongom revealed that his name was missing from the party register, despite having paid the required fees for nomination.
Ongom, who travelled to the NRM headquarters in Kampala to pick nomination forms for the Lira City Mayoral seat, was taken aback when he discovered that his name, along with those of over 50 others, had been omitted from the official party register.
The development has raised questions about internal processes and transparency within the NRM registration system.

Following the incident, Ongom reported the matter to top party officials, including the NRM National Chairperson, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, and Secretary General Richard Todwong, seeking intervention and redress.
While speaking to the press, Ongom expressed deep disappointment with the irregularity. However, he emphasized that the setback would not deter him from pursuing his bid to become Lira City Mayor.
He noted that his decision to contest was not driven by mere enthusiasm but by a clear mission to bring order, direction, and reform to the leadership of the party in Lira.
He called on residents of Lira City to take his political ambition seriously, assuring them that he remains focused on delivering accountable and visionary leadership.
Ongom affirmed his commitment to serve with integrity, saying the recent registration setback has only strengthened his resolve to contest and lead.
