Lira, Uganda — Auma Linda Agnes, the Woman MP for Lira District, has successfully secured job opportunities for Lango’s healthcare graduates in Germany, amid a critical shortage of healthcare workers in the country.
During her recent trip to Germany, Auma met with key officials, including the Speaker of the Bavarian Parliament and negotiated a partnership to send skilled Ugandan workers to fill vacancies in German hospitals.
Germany’s declining birth rate has led to a shrinking workforce, particularly in the healthcare sector.
As a result, many hospitals are facing severe staff shortages, leading to the closure of some facilities and an urgent need for qualified workers.
Auma’s initiative comes as a response to this gap, offering Ugandan graduates, especially from Lango, the opportunity to work in one of Europe’s most advanced healthcare systems.
Uganda’s universities and healthcare institutions produce thousands of graduates each year, but job opportunities are limited, particularly in the health sector.
Auma’s partnership with Germany offers a solution to this ongoing problem by opening doors for Ugandan healthcare professionals to work overseas.
“Many of our young people graduate with medical and nursing qualifications, but the local job market can’t absorb them,” Auma explained. “This initiative provides a pathway for them to put their skills to use while easing the pressure on Germany’s healthcare system.”
As part of the initiative, Auma has already begun discussions with nursing schools in Lango to enroll students in German language courses, which are essential for working in Germany’s healthcare sector.
The partnership with Germany is a major step forward for Lango’s young professionals, offering them the chance to gain international work experience and financial stability.
It also opens up future opportunities for collaboration between Uganda and Germany in other sectors, such as education and technology.
“The benefits of this partnership are not just immediate, but long-term,” Auma noted. “We’re not only addressing unemployment in Uganda but also creating a sustainable model for exporting skilled labour to meet global demand.”
Auma is optimistic that this collaboration will pave the way for more opportunities for Ugandan graduates in other countries facing similar labour shortages.
By connecting local talent with international markets, she hopes to create a pathway for sustainable economic growth for Uganda’s youth.
“By forging these international links, we’re not just sending workers abroad, we’re building a global network that benefits both Uganda and the world,” Auma concluded.
