Lira University Unveils Ambitious Multi-Billion Plan for New Structures in 5 Years

Lira, Uganda – Lira University has unveiled an ambitious plan to invest over sh75 billion in a series of capital development projects over the next five years, aimed at enhancing its infrastructure and accommodating the growing student population.

In an exclusive interview with Prof. Jasper Ogwal-Okeng, the university’s Vice-Chancellor, he revealed that Lira University will construct three major facilities to meet the needs of its rapidly expanding student body, which currently exceeds 5,000 students.

At the heart of this expansion plan is a six-story teaching facility, which is estimated to cost sh20 billion.

This state-of-the-art building will significantly boost the university’s capacity to offer high-quality education to its students, providing much-needed space for lectures, seminars and other learning activities.

In addition to the teaching facility, Lira University will also invest sh50 billion in a new library complex.

This world-class resource center will house an extensive collection of books, journals and digital resources, further solidifying the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and research.

To ensure efficient administration and support services, the university will allocate sh5 billion for the construction of a central administration block.

This modern facility will bring together various administrative functions under one roof, streamlining processes and improving service delivery.

Lira University aims to secure a range of funding sources, including government support, private partnerships and internally generated revenue.

Prof. Ogwal-Okeng expressed confidence in the institution’s ability to raise the necessary funds, emphasizing the crucial role these projects play in meeting the university’s long-term objectives.
