Lira, Uganda – As the festive season approaches, Hon. Julius Achon, Member of Parliament for Otuke East County, has stepped up to support local law enforcement in ensuring a peaceful and safe celebration for residents.
During a recent interaction with security authorities in Otuke, the police highlighted communication challenges that hinder their ability to respond effectively to crime and emergencies.
In response, Achon provided airtime worth UGX 10,000 to each of the 145 police officers in Otuke, amounting to a total of UGX 1,460,000.
The contribution, described as a personal initiative by the MP, aims to enhance communication among officers during the critical festive period.
Achon noted, “Police face challenges in reaching crime scenes, but this small facilitation will help ease their work and improve communication.”
The airtime was officially handed over to SP Wanyama Boniface, the District Police Commander (DPC) of Otuke, at a meeting held today at Margarita Palace Hotel in Lira City.
SP Wanyama expressed his gratitude for the support, stating, “This is the first time I have witnessed such an act from a leader. Hon. Achon has done a commendable job in supporting the police.”
He assured residents that his team would remain vigilant throughout the festive season, monitoring every corner of the district to maintain law and order.
Achon’s gesture has been widely praised as a significant step toward addressing the logistical and operational challenges faced by the police in Otuke.
By bridging the communication gap, the contribution is expected to enhance the force’s ability to respond to emergencies and uphold security.
Achon has urged the people of Lango to celebrate the season responsibly, emphasizing the need for harmony in homes and communities.
“Couples should avoid fights, theft should not be heard of, and parents must take care of their children,” he said.
