Amolatar, Uganda | Kioga North County Member of Parliament, Geoffrey Ocen Kiring, has donated a Toyota Hiace ambulance and a six-body stainless steel mortuary refrigerator to Amolatar District in a move aimed at strengthening healthcare service delivery.
According to an official communication addressed to the Chief Administrative Officer of Amolatar District Local Government, the ambulance will be stationed at Etam Health Centre IV to improve emergency referrals from the remote sub-county, while the mortuary refrigerator will be installed at Amolatar Health Centre IV.
Ocen said the donation is intended to bridge critical service delivery gaps, particularly in emergency medical referrals and mortuary services.
He noted that Etam Town Council, one of the furthest parts of the district, has for years faced challenges in referring expectant mothers, anaemic children requiring blood transfusion, the elderly and road crash victims due to the long distance to Amolatar HCIV and Lira Regional Referral Hospital, coupled with poor road infrastructure.
The MP said the ambulance has already been procured and will be handed over to the district for management and operation under its custody.
In the same initiative, Ocen announced the procurement of a six-body stainless steel mortuary refrigerator for Amolatar HCIV following public demand for improved mortuary facilities in the district. The equipment will be delivered with free installation, user training, and a one-year warranty.
The district has been requested to prepare the mortuary facility to meet the electrical requirements before the refrigerator is delivered in September 2026.
The ambulance is expected to be officially commissioned in August 2026 on a date that will be communicated later.
