Alebtong, Uganda – A wave of fear has gripped residents of Adeki-Arwai village in Omoro Sub-County, Alebtong District, after a wild animal of unknown species on Monday, March 24, 2025, brutally attacked a 28-year-old woman, leaving her unconscious.
The victim, Betty Ajur, was reportedly trying to raise an alarm after spotting the animal attacking a family’s chickens when the creature suddenly turned on her.
Witnesses say the animal launched a vicious attack on her head and hands before she collapsed to the ground, unconscious.
According to Omoro Sub-County Local Council III chairperson Isaac Apenyo Mukwazi, the wild animal’s origin remains a mystery, and its aggressive nature has left the community in shock.
“This is a very serious issue. We do not know what kind of animal this is, and we fear it could be dangerous. I am calling on district leaders to immediately engage the wildlife authorities to investigate and ensure no other such animals are still lurking in our area,” Apenyo stated.
Eyewitnesses and local residents, upon seeing the attack unfold, quickly mobilized and killed the animal before rushing Betty Ajur to Omoro Health Centre III for emergency treatment.
Reports suggest that the animal might have been venomous, though further investigations are being conducted to confirm whether the victim suffered any poisoning.
The incident has sparked growing concerns in the area, with locals calling for immediate intervention from wildlife authorities.
Many fear that more such creatures could be hiding in nearby bushes, posing a threat to human life and livestock.
Apenyo has urged residents to remain vigilant, protect their families, and avoid confrontation with wild animals.
“We need to be cautious. This incident is alarming, and I advise everyone to take necessary precautions. If anyone spots a strange or dangerous animal, they should alert authorities immediately rather than attempting to handle it on their own,” he warned.
This attack has left the people of Omoro Sub-County on edge, questioning whether their homes and farms are still safe.
The authorities are investigating the matter, but one pressing question remains unanswered: What kind of wild animal was responsible for this vicious attack?
