Ogwal Omara Pledges 300 Birds to Dokolo Journalists, Urges Them to Lead Wealth Creation Efforts

Dokolo, Uganda | Joseph Jones Ogwal Omara, the leading National Resistance Movement (NRM) aspirant for the Dokolo North parliamentary seat in the 2026 elections, has pledged 300 birds to the Dokolo Journalists Development Association (DJDA) to support their poultry project and encourage economic empowerment among media professionals.

Addressing journalists at Dokolo Tourist Hotel on 27 April 2025, Mr Ogwal Omara commended the journalists for their professionalism, accuracy, and unity under the association.

He praised them for their role in promoting community development and pledged to provide branded jerseys for the group.

He also announced a major boost to their poultry project, which currently houses 150 birds, by donating an additional 300 birds.

He said the gesture was aimed at encouraging journalists to lead by example in the wealth creation campaigns they champion in the community.

“…You are not only storytellers but agents of transformation. By engaging in economic activities yourselves, you strengthen the credibility of your message to the public…,” Mr Ogwal Omara said.

He further encouraged journalists to expand their professional skills and explore business opportunities.

Highlighting the importance of social responsibility, he urged the association to participate in environmental conservation initiatives and town-cleaning activities.

Mr Ogwal Omara revealed plans to launch a week-long “Keep Dokolo Clean” campaign, targeting major towns including Agwata, Bata and Dokolo.

He pledged to work closely with journalists during the campaign and in future initiatives.

He also encouraged the association to seek benchmarking opportunities with journalists from other regions to adapt to the rapidly evolving global media environment.

Speaking on behalf of the journalists, Stephen Opio Ongora, Chairperson of DJDA, thanked Mr Ogwal Omara for promoting a politics of respect and inclusivity.

He commended him for conducting his consultations without resorting to blackmail and assured him of fair and balanced coverage by the district’s media fraternity.
